In between regular postings of This EMPIRE another sketch day this came from Free Comic Book 2012.  From what I heard it was a very, very good day for some my favorite local comic shops.  It was very cool seeing a little girl dress up as Captain America picking out new comics on Free Comic Day.  Also I overheard a lot of enthusiastic comments for this year’s comic film tie in; The Avengers.

The Avengers 2012

Action | Adventure | Science Fiction

The film has been a staggering hit worldwide, $1 Billion. The opening weekend take domestically was about 207 million so how does that stack up?

Box Office (source –

Budget:  $220,000,000 (estimated)

Opening Weekend: $207,438,708 (USA)

But on the down side with upcoming release of the film and others there have been renew conservations on giving due.  This is always a good discussion to have, but boy does it bring out some heated commentary on both sides.

Listed below are some interesting links on the subject.  If you see an article regarding this topic please send it my way.

David Brothers – The Ethical Rot Behind ‘Before Watchmen’ & ‘The Avengers’ [Opinion]

Eric Stephenson – YOU’RE WITH STUPID NOW

One thing I came up while this was circulating was suggestion one way of helping out. Maybe a donation of  to the The Hero Initiative.  For the price of your theater ticket make a donation to this organization that tries to offer support to comic creators.  If you see other organizations provides similar services please send it my way.

The Hero Initiative creates a financial safety net for comic creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work.

The next is Free Comic Book Day will be Saturday, May 4 2013.  As always there is a somewhat tie-in to the release of a major theatrical film adaptation of a well known superhero property, in order to take advantage of the film’s heavy promotion and related press about the comic book medium.

Iron Man 2013

Action | Adventure | Science Fiction

Well this is just me guessing 🙂

Thank you for reading, back to making comics.
